Clean Drive was an action for
cleaner vehicles in Europe,
included an important target group: car-dealers,
car-rental companies and car-leasing companies,
as well as key actors and customers. The objective
of the project was aligned with the EU overall objective
of 130 g fossil CO2/km on average from new sold
cars by 2012-2015 (a staggered scale).
The main specific objective of the action was based
upon a Swedish pilot model (the action model) which
introduced and involved the main target group (car dealers, car-rental companies and car-leasing companies) as part of the solution towards the EU objective of 130 g fossil CO2
on average from new sold cars by 2012-2015.
A central part of the action was to establish Local Action Groups with car-dealers (10 groups with 10 actors in average per group, representing 9 different EU-countries) and to introduce them to working according to the Clean Drive action model.
Becoming more involved and aware car-dealers, they will feel more comfortable to discussing environmental issues with their customers and be more confident in recommending and selling more energy efficient cars. A key in this development has been to show that environmental issues go hand in hand with economic interests.
The establishment of a strong national supporting network (9 groups with in average 10 actors per group, a group in each participating country) have provided important experience for the project, which has helped the local car-dealers to be successful in their implementation work according to the clean drive action model.
